Englewood sits just south of Denver in the South Platte River Valley, in Arapahoe County. The area traces its beginnings to 1858, when prospector William Green Russell and his party found gold near the confluence of Little Dry Creek and the South Platte River, an early spark of the Pike's Peak gold rush.
